Draft Beer Kits

Home Brewed Beer – is it Actually Any Good?

The enjoyment of good beer is something that is shared far and wide, by people in many countries, of many ages and of a wide range of interests. The great taste of beer is made all the better for the wide range of different brews you can partake in. Many of us think of one specific kind of beer when the word is used. Some of us will think of a nice, crisp, cool lager. Others will think of a darker ale, almost rusty in colour which has a deeper taste. And then there is stout, so dark as to almost be black in colour If you have been out to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, the chances are that you will have enjoyed a few stouts, although it is not a purely Irish thing.

If you decide to make your own beer, you will find that the range of possibilities available to you can be almost overwhelming. It helps to think about what you’d drink if you went to a bar – it really is not too difficult to make for yourself something that is widely available in stores. It takes practice and persistence to get it right, but think of how much you enjoy a good beer, and how much it will be worth the hard work. To make your own beer will take you through an interesting process which will teach you a lot – and make some demands of you, too. By matching those demands, you will be rewarded with something delicious.

Some people actively believe that you can never make your own beer and have a taste that is anywhere near as good as the freely available brands you will see in stores and advertisements. They will point to the advantages of mass manufacture – factory brewing puts in a lot of ingredients and passes them through a long process which results in a quality-controlled product at the end of it all. Yes, there is a real benefit to that, and buying quality beers is no bad thing from time to time, but there is a greater deal of variety in brewing for yourself too.

If you make your own beer, the end product is well worth the effort. There is a great taste that characterises the finest brews, an almost bittersweet taste that satisfies as much, almost, with the aftertaste as it does when it is on your taste buds. Sometimes when you drink a ready-bought brew you will feel like there is something that can improve it. but every bottle of that brew tastes the same, whereas if you make your own beer you can amend the taste as and when you want to.

There is, without question, a real benefit to home brewing. You will find that the taste of home-brewed beer has a real quality when it is done right. Of course, if you make mistakes in the brewing process it may end up tasting very nasty – but sometimes you will have a happy accident that will result in a new slant on the old taste. And if you put the effort in you will certainly find that your home brewed beer is as good as any you can buy.
